You may remember earlier on this year I was going to try some new crafts. Well today I learnt Kumihimo. Kumihimo is Japanese braiding. It is worked over a disc. I picked up a disc from the NEC Hobbycrafts fair awhile ago. However I had never use it until today.
I wanted to create a braid to wrap around a notebook. I needed to practice first. Unfortunately the instructions I have are in Japanese and although they had pictures I couldn’t really get to grips. Luckily YouTube came to my rescue! There are many videos out there and it’s best to find one that you understand.
It’s a simple braid I’ve made today. I’m not going to use it for my notebook as it’s not long enough but at least I’ve now got the skills to make another one 🙂
So today is Ash Wednesday and the start of Lent. This year I’m giving up Cakes, Biscuits and Chocolate (but not drinking Chocolate as that is exempt according to a nun I used to know). I’m doing this to encourage OH as he is doing the same. I’m also going to eat more healthily. So that’s my giving up!
My doing something positive is going to be reading certain books that are going to be encouraging me in making positive changes in my life. I’ll probably blog a bit about them.
On the pins for Lent is going to be a mix of knitting for me and knitting for charity. I’m going to be finishing my failed Ravellenics sock project and as part of the #sheeptweeps KAL knitting a cowl.
So what are your Lenten plans dear reader?
Today Dear Reader it’s 1st March and I’m starting to do a little yippee Spring is almost here dance. The SAD symptoms are starting to lift a little now that the sunshine is making a rare appearance.
Today being 1st March is St. David’s Day. If I knew how to wish you a Happy St. David’s Day in Welsh I would, but alas my Welsh doesn’t stretch that far. In honour of St. David’s Day I made Laverbread I had brought some back from Wales and was saving it for this day. I know the recipe in the link states Caerphilly cheese but as ever I couldn’t find it in my supermarkets. So I used the Red Leicester as I had it in the house.
This is what they looked like.
They tasted Da iawn! 😀 They also passed the OH taste test.
If you are any good at Maths and an avid reader of this blog you are probably wondering where recipes 5, 6 & 7 are. Well recipe 5 was for Valentine’s Day and it went wrong – the recipe was from a book that every time I try one it goes wrong – me thinks they weren’t tested before print and the book went in the recycling bin. Recipe 6 & 7 was done in honour of cake day last weekend. Recipe 6 was Coconut Fruit Slice from this book and recipe 7 was Chocolate Cheesecake Cupcakes from Saved by Cake
Have you cooked anything nice recently Dear Reader? Feel free to let me know.
