#BookReview

OK everyone knows that if I’ve read a book it’s got to be good right? Dear Reader if you loved the Help then have I got the book for you!

The Sweetest Hallelujah by Elaine Hussey is set in 1955 in Mississippi.  Cassie is white and from a privileged background.  Betty is black and from the wrong side of town.   Cassie is a reporter and sees an advert placed by Betty who is dying, seeking a mother for her child. Cassie wants to do a piece on the story but as she digs deeper she uncovers truths that will turn her world and that of Betty’s daughter Billie upside down.

The story has many strong female characters in it.  The story is very atmospheric and the racial tension portrayed very real.  Although over the years I’ve become a slow reader this book did keep me enthralled so I was keen to keep reading it.

This book is in my favourite read list. I will be keeping my eye out for books by this author in the future.

What are you reading at the moment?
