As you know I do like my crafts and spending time on them. However presently I am having to use the time spent on them as a reward for doing other things. So today being my Saturday off it means that Park Run – and it was raining, actually chucking it down. However I did it! 🙂
It’s been a long six months sorting out my hip but now I’m back to doing exercise. I just need an incentive. I had seen advertised an event for National Stitch Day at John Lewis so after my run I popped in to see what it is all about. The idea is to pass on skills and to gain more members to the Embroidery Guild. I was invited to stitch a button onto a bag.
I then worked on the cushion cover that I started at the textile workshop at the Arts Complex. With the ladies encouragement I finished blanket stitching the rabbit.
I could have started working on another bit of it but housework needs to be done. Also I’m making a fish pie for dinner. I’d best get on.
Hello Dear Reader
As you know I am a fairly busy lass, but I try to make time to do things that I enjoy. A few weeks back my wonderful friend Di suggested that we go and see a tapestry in Cannock. She was very enthusiastic about it so I got my diary out and found a date.
The Tapestry/Embroidery was created by Chadsmoor Tapestry Group, who meet at Chadsmoor Methodist Church. It was started many moons ago to create a piece for the Church to represent the many groups that meet there.
From there the group decided to re-cover the seats. The church as far as Methodist Churches go is more ornate than ususal. For a start there is some beautiful stained glass.
The group took the theme of creation and following it they produced this. I apologise that my photos really do not do their beauty justice.
My favourite is the Octopus! I love it!
So from there they recieved a commission to produce a piece to hang in the Cannock Council Offices, Civic Suite. The piece represents the local area and is a beautiful work of art.
If you loved the Bats….wait there is more.
The Embroidery can be viewed Monday-Friday, roughly office hours, at the Council Offices please telephone 01543 462621 for more details.
The Cannock Tapestry group meet on a Wednesday evening. They are having an Open Day at the Church on Saturday 29th June.
The group is very friendly and I enjoyed talking to them about their work as well as spending time admiring it!
