Christmas may seem a while ago now but to get all the Christmas gifts done in time some of the I promise knitting became IOU.
Thankfully they are all finished 🙂 Although they have been a joy to make I really don’t want to be on a timer or have deadlines any more. This is because I have other crafts I want to do. I also have a pile of books I want to read 🙂
Here are a few pictures of the things that I’ve recently made.
The above 2 are bits of baby knitting for a colleague who has recently given birth.
This is another piece that I was asked to make. Luckily it was finished in time for the person’s birthday.
I also finished for me a crochet poncho. I got the idea from this blog Knitting it was taking too long so I decided to crochet it instead.
I’m now onto socks. This is my travelling project. For home I’m working on finishing another project.
What are you working on?
As you know dear reader I knit. I’ve been reading about people’s knitting goals and I’m wondering about mine for this year.
I have lots of odd bits of yarn that I want to use up. I would like to knit things that will be useful to people in need like hats etc. I would like them to go to local people. So when I’ve finished my little to do list I will be looking into that.
If you knit what are your plans?

This made me smile 🙂 Love this take on one of my favourite songs – if I had the tie I would sign up to the KAL 🙂
But it so needs to have the hell blocked out of it, my Glasgow Rose shawl. The colours in the yarn is beautiful.
I know that the picture doesn’t do it justice but you can see what I mean by blocking. That’s going to be a job on a day when I have plenty of time to devote to the task.
I’ve also finished one sock.
I know I need to cast on the other one. May do that tomorrow evening so it can travel for the rest of the week.
Tomorrow I’ll read a book that I’m half way through whilst on the bus.
So another project is finished. One more wip to drag out of the pile and attempt to finish it. I’m also working on a crochet project. I’m learning a few new techniques which is good. YouTube is being so useful to me right now! 🙂
Once finished and delivered I’ll blog about it. Till the next time have a good week 🙂
Finally a bit later but here are some pictures:
The last two Shepherds
Donkey who I love and think is rather cute!
Ox who was a bit fiddly to sew up.
The Wise Men’s gifts. I’ve decided not to add anything else to them.
I did try making the star but found the gold tinsel thread hard to knit with and when I tried to make a pom pom with it…….Well it didn’t work and I had tiny bits of gold thread all over the lounge. This amused hubby no end!
Since then as part of my year of making I decided to brighten up an old coat by making some trimmings using the glowworm yarn. I had pink and orange but when I put up the finish pieces up to the coat I realised that the pink looked better.
Here is the finished product:
I was a bit unsure what to make next. I was trying not to cast on another project but focus on the wips. Two of the wips are shawls – a bit complicated to take to Knit Night. The other is a jumper and currently I’m not sure what I’ve done with the needles that I need for the ribbing. Hmm going to have to hunt for those.
The decision has been taken out of my hands. This year is becoming the year of the baby. A friend’s daughter gave birth today to a baby girl. 🙂 Also four of my friends are pregnant. I’ve been asked to make something a little special for one of them. Since the pins will be out I might as well make a few bits for the other babies – and the best bit booties are a good project to take along to Knit Night as they are small and not complicated. Win 🙂
You may remember dear Reader, I agreed to knit a knitivity. Well today saw the Nativity Service and did I manage to finish it?
Well bar two Shepherds, the Ox, the Donkey, a few sheep and the Wise Men’s gifts. Not that it matters really. I’ve said that I will finish but not for a few days. It’s at church at the moment and will stay there over the Christmas period. Only because I’ve got to the stage where I am sick of it and I really need to knit a little hat for my niece.
The Church was filled with lots of other Nativity sets including another knitted one.
There was even a take using beads.
My favourite was this one made from Slate.
The theme of the service was Nativity but the meaning of nativity (spelt with a small n) means new beginnings and new birth. This was linked to themes of New Year and new starts. I found it very poignant, especially since I’m wanting to make a few positive changes in the new year – and yes I’ve already made my resolutions – you’ll have to wait till 1st January to see what they are 🙂
July is the month of birthdays including my own. OH and I also had our holiday and we went to Scarborough. I had the chance to stare at the sea and feel the sand beneath my toes.
I then went to Harrogate to spend time with the parents and to see Le Tour de France (Yorkshire) twice. I could bore you with the pictures but here is where I stood on the Saturday.
Not too far from the finish. On Sunday I stood outside the church that my dad and sister attend. The atmosphere was more like a street party and it was such a wonderful sight seeing it live.
Whilst I was up there we went to the Great Yorkshire Show. There was lots to see and do. I was lucky enough to see a cookery demonstration by James Martin. I also came across the best gluten free pies ever! I’m definitely going to be ordering some online. Here is the link.
So I mentioned birthdays and my pins have been out making gifts.
I made this Estonian lace cowl for one of my friends.
For another this shawl.
I’m still working on the Whippoorwill and I’ve casted on a friend for a sock. 🙂
